Food waste / απορρίμματα τροφίμων

There's been a lot of talk in the past few years about food waste. At the UN level, in the US and in the EU. This French supermarket chain decided to do something about it, concerning fruit and vegetables that usually don't even reach the supermarket shelves. Watch the video here or straight in YouTube.

However, looking further into it, I discover that this has been an experiment carried out for simply 3 days in a certain regional French market. What's next then...? Doing our best at home, as the final consumers, I guess. But what about produce that we don't even get to choose from, since it doesn't even reach the shelves? Maybe small, neighborhood groceries are not that "picky" about the shape of products they showcase.
But are they catching up to their larger competitors marketing savvy thus eliminating our choices?
